FEES & FINANCES
Your first appointment will always be a FREE, twenty minute consultation by videoconferencing or phone to explore counselling therapy or coaching options, and whether working with us is the right fit for you.
Counselling Therapy: $130 per fifty minute session (this is a tax free service, often covered by insurance)
Payment method: E-transfer
Access to mental health support is important to us. Our counselling therapy rate is intentionally set below the market average, with the expectation that insurance will cover the bulk of the cost. Please check with your insurance provider that your policy covers Registered Counselling Therapist Candidates (RCT-C). Most provide coverage, but all policies are different. After receiving payment for each session, we will provide you with a receipt for insurance reimbursement purposes. We do not offer direct billing at this time.
We are blessed to the do the work that we do, and recognize that counselling therapy can be a significant expense. If you do not have insurance coverage, or otherwise cannot afford to access counselling, please contact us. We do not want finances to be a barrier to you receiving support, and nobody will be turned away due to lack of funds.
Under some circumstances, you may be able to deduct counselling therapy expenses on your tax return. If you are a resident of Nova Scotia or New Brunswick, you may be able to deduct the expenses of Registered Counselling Therapists if you have a referral from a doctor, nurse practitioner, psychologist or occupational therapist, or if you qualify for the disability tax credit. Residents of other provinces may also qualify, but you may only be able to deduct the services of psychologists or psychiatrists, or a Registered Counselling Therapist (or equivalent) licensed in your province. If you have insurance that partially covers counselling sessions, tax deductions can often be applied to your out-of-pocket costs. Please consult a tax professional for advice on your situation. General information from the CRA can be found here.
COUNSELLING THERAPY
Counselling therapy (sometimes called psychotherapy or talk therapy) is a wellness-based, confidential process of improving mental health and wellbeing. In Nova Scotia, counselling therapy is a regulated profession, and our therapists are licensed with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists. We can work with clients remotely in all Canadian provinces and territories besides Quebec.
Broadly speaking, counselling therapists use a variety of techniques and approaches to improve mental, social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. This can include treatment for specific forms of distress, such as anxiety or depression, or for areas of personal growth such as career development. Counsellors do not diagnose or prescribe medication for mental health conditions, Every counsellor has a unique view of human nature and draws upon diverse theories and practices in their work.
